It is the mission of the Detroit Entrepreneurship Institute, Inc. to provide entrepreneurship and economic literacy training and technical assistance to individuals in Southeast Michigan with barriers to accessing resources in order to enhance their economic condition and that of their community

 

Self Employment Initiative (SEI)


Program Manager: Shawntay Dixon

The Self-Employment Initiative (SEI) is an 11-week business skills training program for individuals that are clients of the Family Independence Agency and are also Work First participants.

Benefits of the SEI Program include:

  • Work First requirements fulfilled
  • Business Plan Development
  • One on one business consultation
  • Abundance of business resources
  • State of the art Hewlett Packard (HP) equipment
  • Assistance in accounting and financial data preparation
  • There are no cost to SEI clients.

Classes are held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Enrollment in SEI is an allowable activity in meeting the State of Michigan's work participation requirements. During the 11-weeks of training, participants learn how to create a job for themselves via self-employment.

Participants must be referred by their Work First Worker/Representative.
